Morocco in Arabic is Al Maghreb which means the place where the sun sets.
Morocco borders two seas and is only 8 miles from Europe.
Moroccan cities commonly have mosques with beautiful towers called minarets, market areas called bazaars, old medieval sections called medinas and old fortresses called kasbahs.

What positive changes have happened for people with HAE, in your country, from 2012 to now?

The positive changes that have happened for people with HAE in Morocco, is the creation of the patient association, on February 28, 2018. It gave hope to patients and to their families.

What is the biggest achievement for people with HAE, in your country, from 2012 to now?

The biggest achievement for people with HAE in Morocco is the fact that our association joined the international organization (HAEi). We know that through this, we have significant support which will allow us to quickly improve the management of the disease in our country.

What is the resource, event or activity that you are most proud of organizing for people with HAE in your country, from 2012 to now?

The activity that we are most proud of is organizing for the people with HAE in Morocco, is the first national day dedicated to angioedema in our country. This was also the first time that there were testimonials from patients with the disease broadcast on radio and TV. There have been several newspaper articles dealing with the disease. Currently, the name of the disease is not well known.

What support/ resources have you used from HAEi? What has HAEi helped you to achieve?

HAEi helped us set up a website and host it, and enabled members of our association and patients with the disease to go to Algeria to attend a regional congress.

HAEi planned to support a national angioedema campaign in early 2020 but this could not take place because of the coronavirus.

Your Next Step… What do you want to achieve for people with HAE in your country by 2030?

Our next step that we want to achieve for people with HAE in Morocco is the introduction of the medicines specifically for the disease. We need at least one drug that treats attacks and another that can be used in case of planned or urgent surgery.
